LOGOS SCHOOL UPDATE – 2023/24 – Update #1 (Aug 23, 2023)

————-  GENERAL  ————-

Construction Site: As you may be aware, the construction of the Christ Church fellowship hall is underway on Logos property next to Mountain View Park. If you are a football parent, it is of course, fine to drop off and pick up your son from practice, but we ask that folks not visit or tour the construction site.

Welcome Back Ball: The Student Council will be hosting the Welcome Back Ball on Friday, August 25th.  The elementary dance will run from 6:00-7:30 pm, with a secondary dance practice (6th graders invited) following from 7:30-8:00 pm. The secondary ball will run from 8:00-10:00 pm.  The cost will be $5 per student, no more than $15 per family. Parents are encouraged to attend and their admission is free. Attire for balls – Men: dress shirts, ties, & slacks or dark wash jeans.  Ladies: below-the-knee-length dresses/skirts, modest necklines, no strapless tops, halter tops, or spaghetti straps. Shoes: Clean athletic shoes on the floor only. No dress shoes or high heels.  Logos Balls are for current Logos students, parents, and grandparents only. Parents are welcome to bring younger-than-school-age children, but they will need to stay with them throughout the evening.

Corporate Sponsorships: This is the time of year that we partner with local businesses to help fulfill the needs of our Knights Fund and provide key advertising opportunities. If you would like to find out more please contact Matt Whitling.

————-  ELEMENTARY  ————-

Recess Duty Volunteers at South: We are still looking for volunteers for recess duty this year.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity to serve!  It is such a blessing for teachers to have a short break that you provide!  Here is a link to the current schedule. Please contact Shelli Fisher for Logos South Recess duty.

Recess Duty Volunteers at West: We are still looking for volunteers for recess duty this year.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity to serve!  Please contact Holly Berry.

Assembly Accompaniment Tryouts:  4th – 6th-grade students are welcome to try out to accompany singing at elementary assemblies.  Tryouts will take place on Wednesday, September 6 after lunch in Mr. Berry’s office.  Student accompanists receive one free hot lunch for every assembly they accompany. The music is coming home on Thursday (tomorrow).

Plastic Silverware: Please make sure to send this with your kids if they need it for lunch. The school does not provide these items.

Speech Meet: Speech Meet information packets will be coming home with your students. All students in 1st-6th grade participate. Selections are due September 7.

————-  SECONDARY ————-

Field Day Dress Code:  Secondary Field Day will be held on Friday, August 25.  Field Day is a very active event; in addition, unlike a typical sports competition, students will be doing a wide variety of coed activities and need to dress for individual comfort and the comfort of those around them.  Students must wear shorts that come to within a hands-breath of the top of the knee.  If students would like to wear shorter shorts, they must wear spandex under them that comes to mid-thigh. This applies to both boys and girls.

Locker Room Care: Both the boys and girls locker rooms have had multiple discarded wet towels lying on the floor in the morning before school.  In order to keep our spaces neat, clean, and orderly, we are asking students to hang up their towels on the hooks provided inside their athletic lockers.  Through next week, we have positioned a large trash can in the locker room where any discarded towels will be deposited in the morning, and thrown away at 12:40pm (after lunch).  Please encourage your students to take care of their personal items and use their assigned lockers.  For students participating in conditioning in the morning who do not already have an assigned locker, please contact Mr. Lopez.

Lunch Time Gym Duty Volunteers:  We are looking for parents willing to supervise students in the gym during lunch time (12:05-12:35 pm).  If you are interested in serving please contact Wally Wiggins.

Secondary Boys Bible Study: Mr. Wiggins will lead a Bible study on Mondays at lunch in room 25 starting August 28.  We will study CJ Ryle’s Thoughts For Young Men.

Secondary Substitutes: Logos parents or grandparents that are interested in substitute teaching please contact Alane Holm.
