Mock Trial: Congratulations to the Mock Trial A Team. They came in 1st place in the State Mock Trial championships. They'll be traveling to Arizona in April to represent Idaho in the national championships. Way to go! Pleiades Poetry Contest: Congratulations to Sonya and Will Isenberg for being recognized as “Star” poets by the Moscow Pleiades Club! They will be honored, along with their teachers and family, at a reception at the 1912 Center on April 17. Well done! Boarding Opportunity: We have accepted a high school student from Korea for the 2011-12 school year. She is hoping to board with a Christian family in Moscow. Her family understands that this would be a situation in which they would pay for room and board and that the housing arrangements would not be managed by Logos School. Please consider whether you would be interested in opening your home to Rebekah Kim. Rebekah Kim is 15 years old (9th Grade), desires to graduate from Logos, and attend college in the United States. She is an American citizen (born in LA while her father was studying at UCLA) and is very comfortable and competent in English. She is highly motivated to excel in her studies. She has been home schooled in South Korea for the past few years, since both she and her parents became convinced of the necessity for a thoroughly Christian education. Rebekah was in the same home school group as our very own Michael Kwon (Logos 10th Grade). Rebekah's debate coach provided the following recommendation, "I'd say that, in over 20 years of providing debate education in 5 different countries, that Rebekah is one of the most intelligent, well-spoken, well-read, and mature students I've ever met; and that includes my 6 former Korean students who went to Harvard, Yale and Princeton." Her parents, Seongsu and Juhee Kim are currently looking for a boarding situation for their daughter. If you have any interest in boarding Rebekah, please contact her parents at sk2@snu.ac.kr Cheers, Matt WhitlingLOGOS SCHOOL UPDATE – 2010/11 – Week #28

2011-12 Afternoon Kindergarten Teacher: I am very pleased to announce that the board has hired a second kindergarten teacher for our afternoon class. Anita Merkle comes to Logos with 34 years of kindergarten teaching experience. She is moving this summer from Boise where she currently teaches at Ambrose School, one of our classical Christian sister schools. She is a superb teacher who comes highly recommended. The plan is to have the afternoon class meet from 12:30-3:10 PM each day, but there is a possibility that it could meet in the morning if we are able to acquire enough portable classroom space over the summer. We’ll keep you posted! Morning and Afternoon Kindergarten Rosters: Now that we have an afternoon teacher, families who are registered for the morning class have the opportunity to switch to a smaller class with more individualized attention in the afternoon. If we do have a few families who are willing to do this, it will also create a great situation by decreasing the student to teacher ratio in the morning class. Please let me know if you would like to make this change. Here are the current rosters: Morning: Beauchamp, Casebolt, Cothren, Crapuchettes, Daniels, Driskill, Grauke, Grieser, Griffith, Hicks, Igielski McMurray, Miller, Mortimore, Nason, Rathbun, Rench, Rheingans, Story, Vivar Afternoon: Becker, Breese, Carnahan, Hewitt, Jankovic, Rastogi, Soderberg 2011-12 Lower Elementary Enrollment: Due to the number of applications that we have for 1st -3rd grade, we are currently making plans to open additional classes. Stay tuned for more details. Parent/Teacher Conferences, March 24 & 25: We are looking forward to meeting with you after spring break.Secondary

The show will have professional lighting, sound and recording, as well as be web-cast live! Secondary Student Surveys: This week we will be asking the secondary students to complete a brief survey for each class that they are enrolled in. This survey is designed to communicate the students’ perceptions of the secondary program, to the secondary faculty and administration. This would be a great time to sit down with your child and discuss each class with him/her. Secondary parents are also welcome to provide input at this time. Simply print out the Secondary Student Survey and turn it in to Mr. Whitling’s box in the front office this Friday. Name on the Board: One of our assembly sayings is, “If your name’s on the board…go make it right.” The goal is to teach students to take responsibility and deal with sin faithfully. Toward that end, my teaching and encouragement has been that when a student gets his name on the board that he go, at the next convenient time (recess, lunch, after school), and ask forgiveness of his teacher for whatever he did. In addition to this, our household policy is that if one of my kids gets his name on the board in class, he comes and tells me right after school. If your household discipline leans toward requiring your kids to take this responsibility and make things right, then making excuses, hiding the sin, or spinning the story will just not pay off.Secondary
