LOGOS SCHOOL UPDATE – 2012/13 – #27

   

General

Mock Trial: In preparation for the national competition, the mock trial team has a public scrimmage at the Latah County Courthouse at 7 pm on May 2. All are encouraged to come out and support our mock trial team!   Logos Summer Camps: Summer camp registration is open. See website for details.   Fight’n Knight Day: This Thursday all elementary and secondary students are encouraged to wear their Fight’n Knight shirts and nice jeans to school. The secondary students will be conducting service projects that morning as part of Knights’ Fest.   Walking Tacos! Tomorrow there will be a hot lunch fundraiser put on by the high school boys basketball team. Bring $3 for world famous Walking-Tacos, Airheads, and apples. Don’t miss out on this first time offering at Logos School!    

Elementary

SAT Testing: This week we will be administering Stanford Achievement Tests in grades 1-6 and the Metropolitan Readiness Test in Kindergarten.  Please avoid scheduling appointments during this time if at all possible as these are difficult to make up.  

Secondary

Logos Summer Camps: Summer camp brochures will be coming home with the elementary students this week. There are also volleyball and basketball camps for junior high and high school students. See link for details.   Uniforms: Just a few reminders for the spring: Now that the weather is nice, elementary students are welcome to wear shorts to school. Boots are no longer necessary or appropriate in the elementary or secondary, and please save sandals for non-school activities.

Class Preferences: Class preference selections for K-5th grade are due this Friday.   Class Play: Mr. Kohl’s 5th grade class will be performing this Friday morning. The show will open with a recitation from Mrs. Bradley’s 4th grade class at 8:35. Preschool: The M/W/F Class is currently full, and the T/TH Class only has a few seats available. If you have any preschool age children that you would like to register for 2013-14, now is the time!  

Elementary

Class Preferences: The school board is working on software that will process class requests in the grades with double elementary classes for next year’s enrollment. An email will be sent home when that is ready.   Class Play: Mrs. Akin’s 3rd grade class will be performing this Friday morning. The show will open with a recitation from Miss Shaw’s 1st grade class at 8:35. Easter Assembly: This Thursday afternoon at 2:30 the whole school will meet in the gym for the Easter Assembly. All are welcome to attend. Students are asked to wear their dress uniforms to school on Thursday.  

Elementary

Parent/Teacher Conferences: Thank you for taking the time to meet with us and discuss the progress of your children.   Class Play: Miss Jones’s 3rd grade class will be performing this Thursday morning. The show will open with a recitation from Mrs. Sawyer’s kindergarten class at 8:35. All are welcome.  

Secondary

Mock Trial: Please join us in thanking the Lord for His kindness to our mock trial team this year. We won the state competition for the tenth year in a row and will be heading to nationals in Indianapolis this May. There will be a short assembly for secondary students this Thursday morning at 8:25 in the gym to give thanks and acknowledge the team. Teacher Workday: This Friday the teachers will be calculating grades and writing comments for the 3rd quarter. We will not hold school that day. The following week is Spring Break. Have a great week off with your families!

Secondary Student Surveys: This week we are asking the secondary students to complete a brief survey for each class that they are enrolled in. This survey is designed to communicate the students’ perceptions of the secondary program, to the secondary faculty and administration. This would be a great time to sit down with your child and discuss each class with him/her. Secondary parents are also welcome to provide input at this time. Parent/Teacher Conferences (March 21&22): We are very pleased with how the 1st quarter online scheduling went, and we are using the same system for the conferences coming up in March. Families with three or more students in the elementary should have received an email this week with details on how to sign up. If you fit this category, and have not received an email, please contact the front office. All other families will receive an opportunity to sign up next week.   Classroom Play: This Friday morning Mrs. Merkle’s Kindergarten class will be performing their first play ever! Mrs. Jones’s 4th graders will open with a recitation at 8:35. All are welcome to attend!  

Secondary

Secondary Openings: We are saddened to announce that Mr. Brian Kohl will be working full-time at Canon Press next year and will therefore not be able to teach for us. In addition to this, Melissa Dow will be lightening her load by one class (she is currently carrying more than a full-time load), resulting in the following openings for next year: 7th & 8th Grade Latin, Classical History (11th), and US History (7th). Mock Trial: This year's Logos Mock Trial A-team will be scrimmaging a team made up of Mock Trial alumni this Saturday from 8:00-10:15 a.m. (or so) at the Latah County Courthouse. All are welcome to attend. Fight’n Knight Shirts: This Thursday is the first day of the MCL High School Basketball Tournament.  Our boys and girls teams will be traveling up to Liberty Lake to compete.  Students and staff are welcome to wear their Fight’n Knight t-shirts and nice jeans to school on Thursday.

 

Elementary

Spelling Bee: The 1st – 6th graders will be competing in an in-school spelling bee February 7nd.  Lists and rules are posted on the website under Life at Logos/Elementary/Elementary Spelling Bee. The top two spellers from each class, in 3rd through 6th grade, will compete in the auditorium at 1:00 PM. All are welcome.  

Secondary

Rhetoric Speech Meet (10th-12th Grade): The meet takes place today during 1st and 2nd periods. There will be an awards assembly at 2:30 in the auditorium. Team Jonah: We will have a short assembly (8:30-8:45) in the gym this Thursday to pray for Jonah Grieser and let him know that we're cheering for him as he heads into his most intense treatments. Students are encouraged to wear their Fight’n Knight day attire, but we will pass out “Team Jonah” shirts to classes on Wednesday (preschoolers will receive theirs Thursday morning). There was one bulk order placed for the shirts, so we’re asking students to be flexible with exact sizing!

Logos Recitations Class Play: The play will open with a recitation by Miss Shaw’s 1st grade this Friday morning at 8:35. Uniform Mini Skirts: Just a friendly dress code reminder.  Girls’ skirts and jumpers must be knee-length or longer.  Some skirts that were knee-length at the beginning of the year may look more like a cheerleader’s uniform today.

 

Elementary

Spelling Bee: The 1st – 6th graders will be competing in an in-school spelling bee February 7nd.  Lists and rules are posted on the website under Life at Logos/Elementary/Elementary Spelling Bee.  

Secondary

CTP-4 Testing: Our 7th – 11th graders are taking their annual standardized tests this week. Please avoid any absences if possible. Part-time students do not take these tests.
