LOGOS SCHOOL UPDATE – 2022/23 #18  (Jan 18, 2023)

————-  GENERAL  ————-

February Secondary Assembly: Our next secondary assembly will be on the topic of “Obeying Parents,” presented by Pastor Wilson. Please mark your calendars for 12:40-1:30 p.m. on February 14. Elementary and secondary parents are invited and encouraged to come!

Open Teaching Positions:  We anticipate that we will have full-time and part-time openings for teachers this coming school year.  If you are interested in finding out more about teaching at Logos please email the appropriate principal:  Mr. Wiggins (secondary), Mr. Becker (upper elementary), and Mr. Brockwalder (lower elementary).

Re-enrollment for current students is underway for 2023-24. These are due Monday, Jan. 23rd.

Applications for new students are being accepted.  Principals will begin interviews in February (PK is already well underway).  We aim to fill every class!

————-  ELEMENTARY  ————-

This Friday’s assembly at West opens with a recitation by Miss Anderson’s 6th-grade class, followed by Mrs. Bradley’s and Mrs. Akin’s 3rd-grade class play.  All are welcome. We will begin at 8:35 a.m.

Recess Duty Assistance:  We are in much need of recess helpers at Logos West.  Please consider!  Helping our school in this way is not only beneficial for the teachers but also you get the treat of watching kids play 4-square!  Please let Jen Farley know if you are interested.  Here are the recess days and times that are currently available:

Mondays:  1:50-2:05 pm (5th & 6th grade)

————-  SECONDARY ————-

Knights’ Fest is next week!  This ends up being a fun, busy week with students working on uniforms for volleyball teams, baking in the evenings for the baking competition, working on class literature and textbook costumes, and preparing the class craft.  Please be on the lookout for an email with workshop selections that you can discuss with your child.  The students will sign up for workshops during second period later this week.  Please also keep an eye on the daily announcements as important dates and times will be posted there.  We are looking forward to a great event!

ChatGPT: The latest piece of technology to hit pop culture is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven chatbot called ChatGPT.  The bot has the capability to generate written responses to very specific questions and can write in a style specific to the desire of the user.  Last week during the secondary assembly Mr. Wiggins talked about this FREE piece of technology and how many academics are fearing that ChatGPT may spell the end to writing as we know it.  Although at Logos we do not see this as the end of our writing curriculum, we do recognize that students may be tempted to use this bot, or ones like it, to produce written work they can pass off as original.  Mr. Wiggins encouraged the secondary students to flee from this temptation as any use of AI Chatbots to produce written work is considered plagiarism.
