LOGOS SCHOOL UPDATE – 2015 – Summer #3

General

2015-16 Information: Please check the school website for the updated school supply lists, uniform guidelines, secondary fall schedule, etc…

Combined Back to School Night: Back to School Night for the elementary and the secondary will take place together the Friday before the first day of school: August 21 at 7:00. Please save that date to come and meet with the administration and teachers so that we all get off to a strong start.

Elementary

Preschool: As many of you know, Mrs. Rust has retired. Please continue to pray that her cancer treatments would be effective and that the Lord would provide energy, stamina, and continued faithfulness as the Rusts walk through this trial. Mrs. Handel (previously our afternoon preschool teacher) will be teaching the morning preschool classes this year. There are four seats left in the Tuesday/Thursday Preschool class. If you know any families with preschoolers who would like to attend Logos, please encourage them to apply soon.

Secondary

New Secondary Student Orientation: All 7th graders and other new secondary students and their parents are welcome to come Friday, August 21 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. This is a time to learn about life at Logos and get set for the new school year.

Sports Physicals: If you have a 9th or 11th Grade student who is planning to participate in sports this coming year, he/she will need to have a physical before the season begins (especially time sensitive for volleyball and cross country). See the school webpage for the correct form to bring to your doctor.

Senior Course Options: 12th Graders who will be participating in senior course options (college/online courses and internships) should be thinking about their proposals for next year. These are due on August 10 to Mr. Whitling via email, or earlier if possible. See the school webpage for details.

JHGBB Coach: We are currently accepting resumes for a junior high girls basketball coach for next year. See me or John Carnahan for details.

Junior High Girls Volleyball: We anticipate a large number of 6th-8th grade girls who will be excited to play volleyball this year. We are going to expand the activity to accommodate everyone this year instead of “cutting” as many as 10-15 girls. After the first couple of practices (the first week of school), the girls will be placed on a “Varsity” or “Junior Varsity” team. We’ll have two coaches and all the girls will practice at the same time. The varsity team will play a normal schedule vs. Moscow and Pullman. The junior varsity will play 3-4 inter-squad games, gaining valuable experience along the way. The cost will be $60 for varsity and $40 for JV. We are looking forward to a great season!

Boarding Opportunity: The following student has been accepted to Logos and is looking for a boarding situation for 2015-16. A typical range for boarding a high school student is $6,000-$9,000 for 9 months. If you would like more information please contact me.

Raphael Zhu (10th Grade)

Dear Family, I’m glad to introduce myself to you, and let you know me better. I come from Shanghai. My parents work as a procurators. My Chinese name is Zhiheng Zhu. Since it’s a little difficult to pronounce in English, you can call me Raphael as well. The name came from my favorite tennis player Raphael Nadal, which means I enjoy playing tennis. In addition to a sports fan, I am also keen on music, and can play the piano well. I think I’m an outgoing, easygoing person actually, and I have few requirements on living that I eat almost all kinds of food. I’m not the allergic constitution. I know every family has its own rules, and I should certainly obey it. I’m looking forward to being a member of your family, here is my email: zhuzhiheng97@outlook.com. You can contact me in detail later. Sincerely, Raphael Zhu

Cheers,

Matt Whitling
