Logos Summer Camps/Classes: Some of the camps are filling up. Now is the time to enroll! The brochure can be found here. Today is the final day to register for academic classes that start June 6 (2 weeks before the first day of class). The following classes are full: Basic Drawing and Pastels, Engine Camp, Welding Camp
Fight’n Knight Days: Elementary- Tuesday, Secondary- Friday
Teaching Positions: We are currently accepting resumes for the following teaching positions: Elementary Art (4th and 5th grades), Elementary Latin (3rd-6th Grade), English (7th Grade), Algebra I (8th Grade), Algebra II (10th Grade), and Biology (10th Grade).
Elementary
Elementary Field Day will take place this Tuesday. All elementary students will be dismissed from school at 11:30. This is a parent drop-off and pick-up event. Some families like to pack a picnic lunch and eat in the park and stay for the activities (races, tug-o-war, capture the flag, etc.). Play clothes are welcome! Rain cancels.
The Elementary Awards Ceremony will take place this Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30. School starts at the normal time. We will meet in the gym to distribute year-end awards to our 1st – 6th grade students. After the ceremony, the students will return to their classrooms for a few minutes to receive their report cards and to say farewell. They will be dismissed at about 10:35 and that will be the official end of the elementary school year. Preschool students will be dismissed at 10:30 as well. Students should wear their dress uniform for this event.
Secondary
JVBBB Coach: We are currently accepting resumes for a junior varsity boys basketball coach for next year. See me or John Carnahan for details.
Finals Schedule: I have attached the secondary finals schedule. Please note that the secondary awards ceremony will take place Thursday, May 26 at 2:30 PM. Mr. Garfield will be giving his final address as the superintendent at this time. Both elementary and secondary parents are welcome to attend.
Double 7th Grades: 2016-17 will be the first year that we offer double classes in 7th grade. We are excited about the caliber of students in this group and are looking forward to having them in the secondary. Here are few notes as we prepare for next year:
Unity: The 7th graders are all part of the same class but they will be in different rooms throughout the day. We will insure that there is a healthy mix of interaction between students so that they have regular contact with each other. At the end of the day all of the girls will have Mrs. Spencer and the boys will have Mr. Whitling for PE.
Honors Latin: Due to the wide range of abilities, interests, and backgrounds of our students, we will be offering two different Latin classes in 7th grade. Latin 7 will cover the traditional Lingua Latina material that we have offered in the past. Honors Latin 7 will start in the same place but will move more quickly through the material. Students who earned a 90% or higher in the 4th quarter of 6th grade Latin will automatically be placed in the honors class (please contact me if you would prefer not to have your child in honors). If your child came in just under 90% and you would like to pursue the option of “testing in” to honors, please contact me for details.
Cheers,
Matt Whitling
