General

Individual Pictures: Individual pictures will be taken this Tuesday morning. Families may choose between having their child wear his or her uniform or dressing up in a special outfit of your choice. Modesty standards still apply. This is not a day to dress down.

 

Class Pictures: Class pictures will take place this Friday in the gym. Students should wear their dress uniforms as usual on Friday.

 

Elementary

Speech Meet: Selections are due September 16. Selections are to be memorized by Wednesday, October 11.

 

Class Play: This Friday the 6^th graders will be performing the first classroom play of the year. We will begin at 8:35 AM with a short recitation by Mrs. Loyd’s 3^rd grade class. All are welcome to attend.

 

Assembly Accompaniment Tryouts:  4^th – 6^th grade students are welcome to tryout to accompany singing at elementary assemblies.  Tryouts will take place Wednesday, September 18 @ 12:00 in the lunch room.  Student accompanists receive one free hot lunch for every assembly they accompany. See Mr. Whitling for a copy of the two songs.

 

Secondary

Secondary Back to School Night – Rescheduled – : Back to School Night has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 17 from 7:00-9:00 PM due to conflicts with the fair. On that evening we will re-enact, in miniature, a secondary school day.  This is an opportunity for parents to come and sit under the instruction of their child’s teachers as we move through all seven periods contained in a normal school day.  Come and learn apologetics from Mr. Euhus, Classical Literature from Mrs. Merkle, Logic from Mr. Nance, and PE from Mrs. Spencer and Mr. Whitling as we help provide a fuller picture of what your secondary student receives each day.

 

Speech Meet: Secondary (7^th-9^th) Speech Meet selections are due October 2.

 

Honors Classes: The following honors classes will be offered for the first semester: 9^th Grade Church History, 9^th Grade European History, 11^th Grade Chemistry, 11^th Grade Classical History, 12^th Grade Physics, and 12^th Grade British Literature.  Invitations will be coming home to all students who have earned a 94% or higher in these classes by midterm. Further details about our honors classes are included on the invitation.

 

Study Tip for the Week

Encourage your children (1^st-9^th grade) to begin memorizing their speech meet parts early.  The dinner table is a great place to practice.  Start by having each child read through his selection, beginning and ending with the title and author.  The next night have them recite as much as they can, reading the remainder that has not been memorized yet.  By the time the speech meet comes around, the whole family will be ready to hit the stage and perform!
