LOGOS SCHOOL WINS 2012 MOCK TRIAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!

LOGOS SCHOOL WINS 2012 MOCK TRIAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

At the Supreme Court on Friday, Logos School of Moscow prevailed over
their friends and rivals from The Ambrose School in Meridian. Logos
narrowly retained its hold on the Idaho High School Mock Trial state
championship. The Hon. Justice Joel Horton (Supreme Court justice for the state of Idaho) has judged Idaho
championship rounds for many years now. “Every year they get better,”
he said. This was no platitude, and competition organizers agreed: the
quality of Idaho Mock Trial reached a new height in a courtroom battle
between two unusually talented teams.

When The Ambrose School of Boise and Logos School prevailed out of their respective semifinal matches,
the stage was set for a rematch. The two teams had previously faced
off in a preliminary round the night before, as Ambrose’s plaintiff
battled Logos defense. In that round judges awarded two ballots
to Logos and one to Ambrose. The two teams reversed roles for the
championship round, when Logos’ plaintiff squared off against the
Ambrose defense. The championship round was narrowly decided in
Logos’ favor in another split decision.

The Logos team is made up of seniors McKenzie Evans, Rebekka Hoeft,
Will Isenberg, Gavin Meyer, Jacqueline Nance, Lydia Ryan and Madeline
Schlect, and juniors Kira Langworthy and Morgan Schlect. The team is
coached by Chris Schlect and Jim Nance, and Lewiston attorney Sam
Creason.

This is Logos’ 14th state championship. The win earns them an
opportunity to represent the state of Idaho at the National High
School Mock Trial Championships in Albuquerque in early May. The
team’s ability to compete at the national tournament will depend on
fundraising.
